Ffestiniog Coaches

Ffestiniog Railway Brake Van No 1. Better known as the curly roof van. This brake van was originally purchased from Brown Marshall & Co in 1873, They each contained a guard's compartment, a large luggage compartment accessed externally by sliding doors or internally from the guard's compartment, and a small compartment for dogs. The peculiar roof was to allow the guard to look down the length of train while in motion, this was a consideration as the original loading gauge was very tight. The model recreates the original in 16mm scale with a wealth of detail, working sliding doors, and seating as per the original for the guard. The curly roof has been faithfully designed to be removable, although it can be permanently attached if preferred. Wheels and buffers are excluded from the kit.

Ashbury 4 wheeled carriages. Built by the Ashbury Co. of 1868 six 4 wheel carriages were supplied, it is probable that the bodies were supplied by Ashbury’s while the frames were supplied by Boston lodge. From the 1880’s one of these vehicles appears to have been included in the quarryman’s trains, it has been suggested that this was to meet the requirement to provide parliamentary trains. The kit is to scale with internal and external detail with bench seating completing the interior, the windows are made from clear acrylic and are held in between the panels. Door handles and running boards complete the outside detail. both First and Third class carriages are offered.
